  • TIMETABLE
    Each meeting will start at 12.00pm & feature the same programme.
    Registration closes 30mins before each event. (All under SAL permits).

  • ENTRIES
    Online below, or complete a paper form and enclose a cheque payable to "The Running Shop" and sent to The Running Shop, 17 South Mount Street, Aberdeen, AB25 2TN.

    Individual event: Seniors/Veterans £11 (+£2 SAL), Juniors (U11-U17) £2.

    Try-a-Trail: A shorter run (approx ½M-¾M) is also be available for 5 to 8 year olds £2. The series can be pre-entered for £5.

    Registration: Race numbers can be picked up on the day up to 30mins before each event. A new race number will be allocated for each meeting.

    Application form: Junior age categories as of 1st September 2011. Senior/Vets - age on day. Runner details will be taken as the first event: same age category and club throughout the series.
    If you do enter each race individually please complete each form the same using the same spelling of names, same club/school, etc. to avoid errors in the results.

  • AWARDS
    Series Prizes: sponsored by The Running Shop for the fastest accumulated times over the three meetings. To be eligible for a series prize you must take part in the same three races (excludes the Try-a-Trail event).

    Individual medals: for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each age group/meeting.

    Team medals: (1st place team) at each meeting for U11, U13 & U15 ages (3 runners to count).

    Series medal: Everyone who completes all three meetings including the Try-A-Trail can collect their medal at the final event or afterwards from The Running Shop.

  • LOCATION
    Knockburn: Knockburn Loch, 20 miles West of Aberdeen, 5miles South of Banchory, AB31 6LL.
    Haddo: Haddo House on B9005 8 miles NWest of Ellon, AB41 7EQ.
    Balgownie: University Playing Fields, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, AB22 8LX.

    Runners and spectators are asked to stick to the marked tracks. The courses are run mainly on forest tracks and grass. Spikes may not be suitable for the whole course or due to the weather conditions.

    Changing facilities are limited therefore runners are advised to arrive changed for racing.
    Refreshments will be available for purchase at all venues.

    Haddo results from Sunday 22nd Jan. (Updated 25/1).
    Let us know if you spot any errors and we'll get them sorted in time for the last event at Balgownie.

    Fun Run 5K

    Fun Run 5K in aid of Combat Stress and Gardening Leave


    Both charities help ex-service personnel with Mental Health conditions caused during their service. All money raised will be split equally between them. This will become an annual event to help sustain funding for these worthy charities.

  • LOCATION
    5K on flat paths within
    Duthie Park and on the Deeside Railway Line, Aberdeen.
    Start/Finish is outside the Winter Gardens.

  • TIMETABLE
    The race starts at 10am.
    Registration/number pickup is open from 9am. Please try and supply your own safety pins.

  • ENTRIES
    Enter online (click the button at the bottom of page).
    Entry cost £10 SAL members/£12 non-SAL members.
    If spaces are available then entries will be taken on the day +£2 extra.
    Download a paper entry form.
    Run under UK Athletics rules (Scottish Athletics permit event).

  • OTHER
    Runners are asked to collect sponsorship money for the event if possible and sponsorship forms are available here.
    Display a race poster.
    Uniforms, costumes or Fancy Dress are allowed, the more the merrier!

    Xodus Group Ythan Challenge 2012
    The 2012 and 12th annual Ythan Challenge takes place on Sunday 17th June, starting at 11am

  • LOCATION
    The race starts and finishes at:
    The Meadows Sports Centre, Ellon, Aberdeenshire, AB41 9QJ.

  • ENTRIES
    Entry is now closed. No entries on the day!
    You must be 18 or over on race day to take part.
    Race day information will be emailed to all entrants during the week beginning 6th June and will also be available here and on the event website. Race numbers and timing chips are collected when you register at the Meadows sports centre in Ellon on race day. Please note that no information will be sent out by post.
    Entrants will start in three waves of runners. Where you start will be based on the previous Ythan Challenge time or most recent 10k time you’ve given us. Please make sure you fill in this section of the entry form accurately.

  • TEAM ENTRIES
    You can enter as many runners as you like in a team with the first three across the line to count. Please note, though, that you do have to enter as a specific team using the same team name — we won’t count three individual runners with the same club affiliation as a team.

  • PRIZES
    There are prizes for the first, second and third men and women overall. There are also prizes for the first Male and Female Vets (40-49), first Male and Female Supervets (50+), and first Male and Female Vintage Vets (60+). There are also prizes for the first team, first uniform team and first corporate team, as well as spot prizes. Prizes are provided by The Running Shop supported by Mizuno.

  • SOS INFO
    Please make sure you give us the name and phone number of a race day contact – we do insist on this!

  • SWAPS
    Please DON’T allow someone else to use your number if you can’t run — this is a challenging event and it is essential we know exactly who is running on the day. If you’ve already entered, find you can't run and have someone to swap with, email us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Please note that we will not organise a swap for you.

  • INSURANCE
    We recommend that all entrants take out personal injury insurance, just as a precaution. Among specialist insurers offering one-day cover are Sports Cover Direct who can give you an online quote.
